Information about Palladium Maple Leaf 1 oz
The Canadian Maple Leaf has been minted by the Royal Canadian Mint since 1979. Originally, the Maple Leaf was worth 50 Canadian Dollar and was only available in 1 ounce. There are now units of 1/20 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce. In addition, a special mintage of 1/15 ounce was produced in 1994. The Maple Leaf Palladium has a fineness of 999.5 and has been available in palladium since 2005. The silver and platinum versions are older and have been available since 1988.
The design of the palladium coin
The obverse of the coin shows the iconic symbol of the Canadian national flag, a maple leaf. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, typical of Commonwealth coins. Since 2013, the 1 ounce coin has had an additional security feature - a small maple leaf with the last two digits of the year of minting. The coin bears inscriptions in both of Canada's official languages, English and French.
