Now the New Zealand Mint is reissuing this beautiful antique silver coin. The silver bullion coin is an official means of payment. The face value is 2 Dollar, with a small premium on the actual silver value. The special feature of this coin is the ribbed edge. The ribbed edge makes it possible to fit the coins perfectly into each other and stack them, which makes them easier to store.
The motif side of the high-relief coin features a majestic owl standing on a branch against a hammered, reflective background. The owl's large, reflective eyes are turned towards the viewer. Three Greek letters can be seen next to the owl: AΘE.

AΘE (A-TH-E) is the ancient Greek abbreviation for Athens - the actual issuer of the tetradrachm, which served as the model for this coin. The olive branch on the left side of the owl is the symbol for peace and a crescent moon. Below the coin is the inscription: 1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER. On the reverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeht II on a reflective, hammered background with the inscription: ELIZABTEH II NIUE TWO DOLLARS.
