Information about Gold Philharmonic 1 oz
The Vienna Philharmonic Gold is an Austrian gold coin introduced by Münze Österreich in 1989. It holds the distinction of being the second gold bullion coin to be issued, following the Gold Britannia, and is recognized as legal tender. After the currency switch in 2002, the coin is no longer denominated in Schilling but rather in Euro. Notably, it remains the sole bullion coin in Europe with a nominal value specified in Euro.
The design of the gold coin
The design of the gold coin remains consistent over time, with the exception of the year of mintage. On the obverse side, the Vienna Philharmonic showcases the renowned grand pipe organ located in the Golden Hall at the Wiener Musikverein. The reverse side features various musical instruments from the Viennese orchestra, including a horn, bassoon, harp, four violins, and a cello arranged in the center.
The gold used in the Vienna Philharmonic possesses a remarkable fineness level of 999.9. Initially issued in 1 ounce and 1/4 ounce denominations, it is now available in 1/2 ounce, 1/10 ounce, and, since 2014, in 1/25 ounce options. The selling price aligns with current gold prices, along with a slight surcharge. Notably, the Vienna Gold Philharmonic holds significant appeal, particularly in North America and Japan. Since 2008, it has also been issued in silver, and since 2016, in platinum.
